Navigation area

Above: The top area of the website, including the tabs that comprise the main navigation bar.

Home Every square inch of the home page is occupied by a high priority item. For example, Recent Member Publications throw a spotlight on the Fellowship while at the same time providing a reason to return to the website frequently through the year.
News Recent news items appear in a teaser block on the Home page. Under the News tab they can be read in full, along with archived items.
Calendar Events are accessed here by calendar date. Events are also accessed through News, and on the Conferences page (accessed via the Resources tab).
Start here Introductory orientation aids:  A life of Thomas F. Torrance, and Reader's Guide to his publications, both by Elmer Colyer, and "Quick Start" tips for TFT, James B. Torrance and David W. Torrance.
Journal: Participatio Quick access to each issue, with the most recent issue prominent. Each article has its own page and url that can be bookmarked or linked to from blogs or online discussions (eg twitter). Over time, Book Reviews will become more prominent as well; cf. the separate Book Reviews page.
Bibliographies

Sources bibliography; Studies bibliography; Member Publications; Recent Publications; Book Reviews; etc.

Other Resources Theses & Dissertations; People Directory; course syllabi; regional conferences and events; media; etc.; and External Resources. Take some time to explore how they are organized.
Annual Meetings Info for annual meetings, current and archived, including media, minutes and annual president letters.
Members Basic information about membership is provided here, along with a password-protected Member Directory. Browsing the Member Profiles in the Directory is a benefit of membership. Member Profiles include statements about research interests by the member plus various clickable "taxonomy" terms that integrate the Profiles with resources and the bibliographies.
About Basic info: Mission, Board, etc. The Mission statement is teased at the bottom of every page.
Advanced Search Not yet implemented. Our eventual goal is to support the searches described on the page The Bibliographies as a Research Tool.
Help You are in this section now. Help also contains a Guided Practice Tutorial to lead you step-by-step through practical research scenarios.

Proceed through the main tabs on the navigation bar in turn:

  1. Click the Home tab, and survey the layout.
    • The home page provides quick access into the most important resources of the website.
    • Return often to keep up with current literature:
      • Recent Member Publications
      • Recent Sources
      • To keep up with current literature not by members, click the "Recent" link to go to the Recent Publications bibliography. Can you find this "Recent" link? Tip: the font is in all caps.
    • Subscribe to rss feeds.
  2. Click on the News tab.
    • Recent news items appear in a teaser block on the Home page. Under the News tab they can be read in full, along with archived items.
  3. Click on the Calendar tab
    • Events are accessed here by calendar date. Events are also accessed through News, and on the Conferences page (accessed via Resources tab).
  4. Click on the Member tab
    • As you have already seen, Member profiles are password protected. The bibliographies and other resources are public, except for the member directory, people directory, and restricted access pdfs.
  5. Click on the Participatio tab
    • This section of the website provides quick access to each issue, with the most recent issue prominent.
    • Every issue has its own table of contents page, which may be cited or downloaded as a complete issue.
    • Every item (article, book review, etc.) has its own entry in the Studies bibliography, and may be cited or downloaded invidually, linked to from blogs or shared in online discussions (e.g., Twitter, Linked-In, Facebook).
    • Items may be accessed via the Studies bibliography or through the Participatio tab. Book reviews are also accessed via the separate Book Reviews page.
    • Share any article on social media with the Share links at the top-right.
  6. Click on the Start Here tab, the Bibliographies tab, and the Other Resources tab.
    • This is a substantial body of resources (introductory orientation aids, Sources and Studies bibliographies, Member Publications, Recent Publications, Book Reviews, Theses & Dissertations, People Directory, course syllabi, conferences and events, media, Call for Materials, FAQ's for the bibliographies and for McGrath #'s, etc.). Take some time to explore how they are organized under the various headings.
    • Check out forthcoming dissertations and theses. Do you know of a graduate student who would like to list their project here?
    • Explore available media.
    • Return often to stay abreast of upcoming conferences and events.  Do you have an event or presentation to list here?
    • Please provide input to update all of these resources: new Studies, new Book reviews, new dissertation projects, member presentations, etc.
    • From the Book Reviews list, note that you can filter by other genre types as well, including Sermon, Obituary, Handout, etc.
      • Development note: In the Sources bibliography, these terms are only present in the Genre field in records that have been cleaned up since import. We hope to finish text cleanup in the first half of 2019. Meanwhile, the genres are listed in a general key words field; they are present on the record, just not in a way that supports this Genre Type filter. Records not yet cleaned up have no italics. Also check the Status field (in the left sidebar). Text cleanup is our number one priority after website development passes a threshold of minimum functionality.
  7. Click on the Annual Meeting tab
    • Info is provided here for annual meetings, current and archived, including media, minutes and annual president letters. Look for it to be updated after each annual meeting.
  8. Click on the About tab
    • This section provides basic info about the Fellowship: Mission, Executive Committee, a Site map, etc. The Mission statement is teased at the bottom of every page.
  9. Click on the Search tab.
  10. Click on the Admin tab (this tab only appears when you are logged in with Executive Committee or higher privileges). It includes a website comparison and other pages that might be interesting to the Executive Committee, or useful for administrative functions.

Our mission with the website and its resources is to create a virtual hub for an academic community that will stimulate and sustain research carried on in a Torrancean vision, consistent with our Mission.
