Grounded in common commitment to a Reformed catholicity, both John Wesley and T. F. Torrance proffer Christian unity as a desideratum necessarily predicated upon the Nicene faith, and issuing from a common love of the triune God made known in Jesus Christ. Yet Wesley’s rational and relational approach stands in tension with Torrance’s ontological and sacramental emphasis. This article delineates points of convergence and divergence between these approaches, and suggests the possibility of their mutual complementarity and support toward the goal of Christian unity.
