Abstract

Thomas F. Torrance’s profound insights into the nature of personhood formed one of most positive trajectories to arise out of twentieth-century theology.  His doctrine of the vicarious nature of Christ bore the illuminating distinction of Christ as both humanizing man and personalizing person. In what follows two areas apropos to the person who “personalizes” will be explored: 1. Drawing upon the progress of the dogma of personhood, a summary will be offered of the major ideas that produced the context for use of prosopon/persona which directly fed into the onto-theological and anthropological notion of person which Torrance explored; 2. The personhood of Christ which offers a personalizing redemption will be analyzed and assessed.
