Torrance, Thomas F. "Answer to God." Biblical Theology 2, no. 1 (1951): 3-16; #1951-041
“This address was delivered at the Pre-Assembly Congress to mark the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Presbyterian Church in Canada; it has been abridged somewhat for publication.”
The text is: “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.”
Editorial, pp. 2-3, speaking of individual conversion and social duties: "Read Dr. Torrance's second address to the Canadian Church at her seventy-fifth anniversary celebrations (printed in this issue), and you will realise that here is a better statement on the needs of to-day. Or do you not agree with this when you read what he has to say on the ultimate choice which we have all to make and constantly seek to evade, and at the same time on how Christ seeks to re-make society in the fellowship of the Church? Is this not the answer to the conflict between individual conversion and the social Gospel? Is there not a new note here which is, in fact, a very old New Testament note, often forgotten since the individualism of the Middle Ages? Does God in Christ not usually remake men within a remade society, and at the same time keep remaking this society through these new men?...."
