- listen to the audio on normal speed
- try to anticipate some of the potential problems or difficulties you may have (unfamiliar dialogue, accent, etc.)
- look over the information sheets about the person (look at pictures, keep their humanity foremost in mind)
- there is no need to get bogged down with rules, just start
- insert asterisks where you know there's a problem to come back to later
- look at the style guide to gain a basic familiarity
- create a word list of unfamiliar terms or names you might encounter
- anticipate what shortcuts might be helpful to create
- think of purpose and preservation of the project
- each transcription is different, prepare for new challenges if you're beginning another one
