Abstract
TWO KEYNOTE LECTURES ON THE HOLY SPIRIT

Keynote #1: Tom Greggs, "Moving Beyond Reformation Pessimism or Pietist Personalism: Possibilities for Pneumatology in Evangelical Theology, in dialogue with T. F. Torrance."

The first keynote will be given by Dr. Tom Greggs. Tom is the Director of the Center of Theological Inquiry, Princeton. He was previously Marischal (1616) Chair of Divinity at the University of Aberdeen where he also served as Head of Divinity. Educated at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, Dr Greggs is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a member of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches, as in both cases was T. F. Torrance himself. Greggs’ books include: Dogmatic Ecclesiology: Vol. 1—The Priestly Catholicity of the Church; The Breadth of Salvation; Theology against Religion; The Church in a World of Religions; Barth, Origen, and Universal Salvation; and Barth and Bonhoeffer as Contributors to Post-Liberal Ecclesiology. He currently has three books in press: Introduction to Theology: Biblical, Systematic, Comprehensive; Scriptural Reasoning: Abrahamic Inter-Faith Practice (with Maria Dakeke and Steven Kepnes); and Saving Systematic Theology: Experience, Irreducibility and Coherence. Greggs is currently the lead on a $4.5mil Templeton grant on the theology of hope and is working on the second of his three-volume Ecclesiology.

Keynote #2: Scott Harrower, "A Trinitarian life that can wrestle with the 'dark side' of faith: T. F. Torrance’s theological-spiritual direction for growing through religious struggles."

Following Tom, we will hear from Rev Dr Scott Harrower (PhD Trinity Intl Uni). Scott is an Australian theologian and historian whose work focuses on the Trinity, the problem of evil, the development of Christianity, and how to promote lively faith amidst ordinary Christian communities. His works include God of All Comfort: A Trinitarian Response to the Horrors of This World (Faithlife, 2019), Trauma and Recovery in Early North African Christianity(De Gruyter Brill, 2024), and A Handbook to Second Century Christianity (Baylor, 2025). Scott will be responding to Tom and furthering our conversation on Torrance and pneumatology.

Finally, before the extended period of question and response, a brief response to both papers will be offered by Myk Habets (PhD Otago University), Senior Lecturer in Theology, Head of Theology, Laidlaw College, New Zealand.  As is usual for our Annual Meetings, we have plenty of time for conversation and we welcome you and any guests you may like to bring along.
